Tip Tuesday - Tee Markers Are Your Friend

Estimated read time: 42 seconds

Welcome to Tip Tuesday.

A simple, actionable tip designed to save you shots without changing your golf swing.

Let’s get into it.

Tee Markers Are Your Friend

If you've got a slice, one of the best practice drills you can do is to add a tee peg on the inside between your front foot and the ball.

By simply trying not to hit the tee on your path through the ball, you're naturally limiting the club from moving from out to in on the downswing.

Vice versa if you're struggling with an overly in to out path.

It's an incredibly simple but effective golf drill that has been taught for many a year.

And it works, because it's instinctive.

We know not to hit the tee peg, so can focus on producing a better swing path.

But just like that simple tee peg drill, I also see the tee markers as my friend when out on the golf course.

Not because my playing partners are fed up with my shocking banter.

But because they assist me in hitting different types of shots when I need to.

The tee markers are great for simplifying a draw or a fade shot.

Say the hole doglegs to the right and requires a fade from the tee.

I'll tee the ball up on the right side, about 6 inches inside and back of the right-hand tee marker.

This gives me a visual to swing left on the ball.

Ultimately making sure that I avoid hitting the tee marker (like you would with a tee peg on the driving range).

And this will help promote that out to in swing path for the perfect fade around the corner.

Tired of wet feet on the golf course?

So was I.

So I decided to create the best waterproof golf socks on the market.

Say goodbye to soaked-through socks by the 2nd hole, and say hello to On The Toe.

Just like the driving range drill, it works both ways.

If you need to hit a draw on a hole, tee it up 6 inches from inside the left tee box marker and focus on that in to out swing path.

A few things to mention with this simple but effective tip for the golf course:

Don't go teeing it up on the outside of the tee markers.

That's a great way to pick up a few penalty shots for the scorecard.

Also, crucially, make sure that the ball is teed up slightly back of the marker.

Even with the best intentions, our golf swings can sometimes let us down.

And unlike a tee peg on the driving range, the head greenkeeper won't take kindly to you taking a chunk out of their new tee box markers.

It's a simple visual which I've used for many years and has certainly improved my tee shot game.

If your swing is feeling pretty solid, give this one a try this weekend and see if it helps you with your shot shaping.

That's it for Tip Tuesday this week.

I hope you enjoyed it and learned something to help your game.

Feel free to share it with your golf mates (unless, of course, you don't want them to improve...).

I'll see you on Friday for the normal edition of The Weekly Slice.

It's time to make a change to your golf grip game.

You've upgraded your wardrobe with new styles and designs.

But you're stuck using that old SuperStroke grip which looks more Motocross than putting green.

So, we decided to create a golf grip that not only performs well (soft, comfortable feel) but also looks great and adds some style to your putter.

Meet Welton Golf, your new putter grip of choice.
