Tip Tuesday - More Break Than You Think

Estimated read time: 39 seconds

Welcome to Tip Tuesday.

A simple, actionable tip designed to save you shots without changing your golf swing.

Let’s get into it.

More Break Than You Think

Green reading.

One of those elements in golf that many golfers struggle with.

There's plenty of ways you can go about learning how to read greens.

And once you understand it, putting becomes far easier.

But what I've learned in 20 years of playing golf is that just about all putts missed are missed on the low side.

We're forever under reading greens.

How many times have you seen your ball fall away below the hole way before it's got near the cup?

Simply, because you've not played for enough break on the putt.

It's common for so many amateur golfers to miss on the low side.

And it's incredibly frustrating because it means the putt never has any chance of going in the hole.

Tired of wet feet on the golf course?

So was I.

So I decided to create the best waterproof golf socks on the market.

Say goodbye to soaked-through socks by the 2nd hole, and say hello to On The Toe.

Therefore, I always like to play more break than it looks.

If I miss on the high side, at least the ball has had a chance of going in.

It just means that the pace was off.

There's a reason why the high side of the cup is known as the "pro side".

Because it's very rare you'll see a top player miss the hole low side.

And if they do, it's because they didn't hit the putt hard enough to reach the hole.

Stats show that you'll hole more putts if your misses are mostly on the high side.

So aiming higher than you think really is a no-brainer.

If the putt looks like two inches outside the right.

Try three inches.

If you think it's left of centre.

Aim for the left edge.

Whatever you think the putt is saying, just give it that little bit more.

You'll start to miss fewer on the low side and you'll start holing far more putts.

Give it a try and see how you get on.

That's it for Tip Tuesday this week.

I hope you enjoyed it and learned something to help your game.

Feel free to share it with your golf mates (unless, of course, you don't want them to improve...).

I'll see you on Friday for the normal edition of The Weekly Slice.

It's time to make a change to your golf grip game.

You've upgraded your wardrobe with new styles and designs.

But you're stuck using that old SuperStroke grip which looks more Motocross than putting green.

So, we decided to create a golf grip that not only performs well (soft, comfortable feel) but also looks great and adds some style to your putter.

Meet Welton Golf, your new putter grip of choice.
