The Weekly SliceBack-To-Back For Burmester & Rahm's $500 Million Deal |
Estimated read time: 2 minutes and 34 seconds Welcome to The Weekly Slice. Let's talk golf. Tour RoundupPGA TourScottie Scheffler triumphed at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, marking a significant win for the world number one.
Scheffler, delivered a bogey-free four-under round of 68, culminating in a 20-under-par total and a three-shot victory over Austrian Sepp Straka. This win is a notable achievement for Scheffler, especially considering his recent performance in the Ryder Cup and his ranking in various statistical categories, including strokes gained. Despite his struggles with the flat stick, where he ranked outside the top 100, Scheffler's ball-striking prowess was on full display, leading the field in strokes gained: tee-to-green. His win at Albany is a testament to his skill and resilience, overcoming recent challenges to secure a win that sets a positive tone for his upcoming season. Tiger Woods, the tournament host, finished 18th in his first competition following ankle surgery. This week the PGA Tour joins forces with the LPGA Tour for the Grant Thornton Invitational, with the best players from the respective tours competing in teams of two. The three-day event features a scramble, foursomes and four-ball format.

The 34-year-old South African golfer, who won the Joburg Open the previous week, was able to get the win a week later in Johannesburg. Starting the final round two shots off the lead, Burmester navigated the challenging conditions with a composed performance, carding a final round 68. His round marked with crucial birdies on the final three holes, propelled him to a three-stroke victory with a total score of 277. The DP World Tour was also still in Australia for the Australian Open. Joaquin Niemann, the Chilean golfer who's been making waves since joining LIV Golf last year, claimed the win.
In a nail-biting playoff against Japan's Rikuya Hoshino, Niemann showed his class by making an eagle on the second playoff hole. This win at the Australian Golf Club in Sydney wasn't just any win – it marked his first title on the DP World Tour, adding to his already impressive resume with two PGA Tour wins. This week the tour stays in South Africa for the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek Country Club.
